Horizontal Directional Drilling

Directional boring, commonly called horizontal directional drilling or HDD, is a steerable trenchless method of installing underground pipes, conduits and cables in a shallow arc along a prescribed bore path by using a surface launched drilling rig, with minimal impact on the surrounding area. Directional boring is used when trenching or excavating is not practical. It is suitable for a variety of soil conditions and jobs including road, landscape and river crossings. Pipes can be made of materials such as PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, ductile iron, and steel if the pipes can be pulled through the drilled hole. Directional boring is not practical if there are voids in the rock or incomplete layers of rock.

Thrust Boring / Pipe Jacking

Thrust boring, or auger boring, is a jack and bore drilling method typically used for installing steel pipe casing beneath an existing surface where the risk of hole collapse whilst installing larger diameters has been identified or where the grade is critical. Examples of this would be under railways, roads and structures. The thrust boring machine is capable of drilling in a variety of ground conditions from sand through to reasonably hard rock making it a dependable and economical way of drilling. This boring method generally utilizes an auger that is placed inside a section of steel pipe. A large rectangular pit is usually dug on each side of the work area to accommodate the steel pipe and machinery used in this procedure.

Vertical Drilling / Earthing / Cathodic Protection

The vertical drilling system lets you drill automatically keeping the well path vertical. The fully rotating system gives you cost-efficient drilling while automatically and continuously maintaining a vertical wellbore, thus removing the potential for costly correction runs especially for earthing purposes.
The full- improves hole cleaning efficiency and wellbore quality. Also, there's reduced lost-in-hole potential and reduced mechanical and differential sticking.
"Cathodic protection" is a term used for certain measures taken to prevent or minimize electrolytic corrosion of metallic equipment and structures.

Bentonite Filling For Electrical Ducts

The purpose of inserting bentonite mix into cable pipes or ducts that are particularly installed under road and railway crossings. Failure to fill the air space between the cable and duct will result in increased thermal resistance and if the current rating of the cable is not derated accordingly, overheating and damage to the cable insulation will occur resulting in premature cable failure.
To eliminate this thermal problem on relatively short duct runs (less than 70m), the air space in the duct should be replaced with a mixture of bentonite, cement, sand and water. The mixture should be pumped into the duct using standard pressure grouting techniques.
